Chelsea are reportedly on the brink of completing a deal to sign Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.

It sounds like Chelsea are about to wrap up yet another new signing during what’s turning out to be a busy summer transfer window of 2024.

Villarreal keeper Filip Jorgensen, 22, has become a firm target for the Blues during the recent week in the transfer rumour mill. It was claimed by The Athletic earlier this week that Jorgensen prefers a move to Chelsea over Marseille.

The latest speculation is that the La Liga shot-stopper will become the newest addition to Enzo Maresca’s young squad of players.

Filip Jorgensen will cost Chelsea just over £20m

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported via X on Saturday afternoon that Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Jorgensen.

He’s given the transfer his famous seal of approval with the caption: ‘here we go’. Now, fans will just wait for official confirmation from the club.

Interestingly, Romano claims that Chelsea will pay Villarreal €24.5m, which is around £20.7m.

What does this mean for Robert Sanchez?

It’s going to be interesting to see what the imminent Jorgensen transfer means for Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

A recent report by The Athletic claimed that Sanchez will start next season in Chelsea’s starting line-up. Is that still going to be the case with the arrival of a new gloveman, though?

Sanchez, 26, has decent experience as a Premier League goalkeeper and he started Chelsea’s first match of pre-season earlier this week against Wrexham. It surely gives him a decent head start to convince Maresca he’s the right man in-between the sticks.

As for Jorgensen, he’s still only 22 and is about to move to England for the first time. On paper, the advantage he’s got is that he looks like a better fit for the manager’s style when it comes to keepers that are strong playing out with their feet.
