England U21s will aim to book their spot in the semi-finals of the Euro U21 Championships when they face Portugal this weekend.

The Young Lions are among the heavy favourites in Georgia having topped Group C with three straight 2-0 wins.

Lee Carsley’s side have seen off the Czech Republic, Israel and Germany to move three wins away from glory.

But first up is a quarter-final showdown with Portugal, who finished runners up in Group A behind tournament hosts Georgia.

The clash will take place on Sunday, July 2 and kick off is at 5pm UK time. 

Unfortunately, no UK-based TV company decided to bid for the rights to show the Young Lions in action.

Emile Smith Rowe, Curtis Jones and Morgan Gibbs-White are among the stars set to return to the starting XI having been rested last time.

But both Cameron Archer and Harvey Elliott have provided a headache for boss Carsley after scoring on their first starts.

The Young Lions are yet to concede a goal in the tournament and boss Carsley has been keen to praise his entire team for their defending.

He told UEFA.com: “We talk about the whole team defending, as opposed to just the defence.

“I thought Levi (Colwill) and Taylor (Harwood-Bellis) as well as Jarrad (Branthwaite) and Charlie (Cresswell) have done outstandingly at centre-back, and obviously James (Trafford) in goal.

“As a whole, we’ve defended really well from full-back areas, with midfielders and forwards.

“It was really pleasing to see, right at the end of the game, players making blocks on the edge of the box and blocking crosses. It’s good to see.”
