Call The Midwife star Miriam Margolyes has shared a gloomy health update.
The actress recently stated she doesn’t believe she has much longer to live after having a major heart surgery last October, following years of dealing with spinal stenosis.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, the 83-year-old admitted that she feels as though her life is coming to an end due to her heart condition.
Margolyes said, “When you know that you haven’t got long to live – and I’m probably going to die within the next five or six years, if not before, I’m loath to leave behind performing. It’s such a joy.”
The Harry Potter star described the physical limitations of her condition as “restrictive and depressing.”
She went on to say, “I long to play roles that don’t keep me in a wheelchair, but I’m just not strong enough.”
The iconic actress has previously shed light on her health issues and the complicated heart surgery she underwent.
She revealed on Table Manners podcast, “I’ve got a cow’s heart now. Well, not the whole heart. I’ve had an aortic valve replaced by a cow’s aortic valve.”
When the actress was asked if it is a common thing to have, Margolyes replied: “I think it’s rather refined, actually!”
She also added, “I don’t know how common it is.”
“I’d never heard of that operation.”
“But it saves you from having open heart surgery, which would be infinitely more invasive.”
Margolyes is a celebrated actress known for her work on both stage and screen, achieving success in both the UK and the US.
In 1993, she won the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Age of Innocence.
She received the Best Supporting Actress award from the LA Critics Circle in 1989 for her role in Little Dorrit (1987).
She also played Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter film series from 2002 to 2011.
