Liverpool legend and ESPN pundit Steve Nicol is not convinced with one of Chelsea’s recent signings.

Chelsea have made a lot of signings this summer, with Filip Jorgensen being the latest. The club confirmed his arrival on Tuesday, and the goalkeeper has already made his unofficial debut for them.

As well as Jorgensen, the Blues have also brought in Caleb Wiley, Renato Veiga, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman and Tosin Adarabioyo.

None of those transfers were too expensive either, with Adarabioyo arriving at the club on a free transfer. Chelsea think signing Adarabioyo was such smart business after his contract at Fulham ran out.

However, not everyone has been a fan of Chelsea’s business, with Nicol being one man to criticise it.

Steve Nicol not confident about Filip Jorgensen

It is not to say Chelsea were lacking options for between the goalposts. Before Jorgensen’s arrival, they already had Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic.

At one point, it had looked like the former would be the first-choice goalkeeper. Sanchez was informed that he’s in Maresca’s plans.

However, Jorgensen could now become Chelsea’s new No.1, though Nicol is not fully convinced by him, Sanchez or Petrovic.

Speaking on ESPN, he said: “They’ve basically got three goalkeepers that I don’t think any of them are… they’re all like… would it make any difference whichever one played? That’s kind of what it seems like right now.”

Filip Jorgensen has convinced Chelsea

Chelsea clearly like what they have seen from Jorgensen after deciding to spend around £20m on him.

The Denmark U21 international was one of the top-performing goalkeepers in La Liga last season, making the most saves in the competition.

As per FBref, Jorgensen made 143 saves, which was more than any other shot-stopper. Only time will tell, though, if the former Villarreal man is going to be an upgrade on Sanchez and Petrovic.

It is certainly going to be an interesting battle, with Jorgensen needing to oust a goalkeeper he has a lot of respect for.

Jorgensen says he wants to learn from Sanchez, but that is not the only thing he will want to do. The new Chelsea signing is also going to want to take the Spaniard’s spot in Enzo Maresca‘s team.
