Olivia Colman looked sophisticated yet stylish as she attended a special screening of her new film Empire of Light in Westgate-on-Sea, Kent on Sunday.

The actress, 48, opted for a long black dress to mark the occasion, which was marked by white stitching and gold buttons on either shoulder. 

She looked effortlessly chic in the black number, as she paired the look with big gold hoop earrings and gold necklaces.

Keeping her look modest, Olivia added some black leather boots which added inches to her slim frame. 

Olivia continued to sport her cropped haircut, opting for a flick of eyeliner and soft red lip for her makeup. 

Arriving at the event in Kent, where the movie was filmed last yet, she chose a checked wool coat to bare the cold weather.

Also at the event was film director Sam Mendes, 57, who looked dapper in all-black. 

Sam paired his ominous look with a grey coat, a grey chequered scarf and brown-tinted glasses.

Co-star Toby Jones joined the pair as the trio laughed and smiled at each other.

Recently, the actress revealed she tried to have her raunchy scenes with onscreen lover Michael Ward, 25, removed from her new film Empire Of Light. 

Speaking about her ’embarrassment’, Olivia said: ‘I always wanted Sam to take out the sex scenes because I was so embarrassed.’ 

‘I said, ‘Why can’t they go for the kiss, and cut, and then pretend that it had already happened?’, she continued.

‘Michael was much more mature than me and helped me deal with my nerves.’ 

These comments also come after Olivia spoke about the moment she discovered Michael’s real mother is five years younger than her.

Olivia and Michael discussed a few ‘slightly embarrassing’ moments during filming while speaking on The Graham Norton Show.

Olivia said of the intimate scenes: ‘There was one particular moment when I was astride Micheal in a compromising and slightly embarrassing situation and he said, ”It’s my mum’s birthday today.”

When he said she was 43, I was like, ”OK, stop talking!”

Further discussing the film, when asked if her role was written specially for her, Olivia said: ‘Apparently it was. But Sam is so nice he would say that anyway. He was watching The Crown at the time and thought of me. 

‘We had a Zoom conversation during lockdown and I said ‘okay, yes’ before I even knew what it was. It is an incredible accolade for him to write something for me.’

Adding jokingly, ‘It was an amazing part thank god – can you imagine if it had been rubbish!’

Michael, talking about working with Olivia, said later in the show: ‘It was an amazing experience. It was incredible just to share the same space. I learnt so much about being a real person – everyone had a real sense of humanity. 

‘If Olivia had been rude I might have thought that’s how I need to be to reach a certain level of success but the fact she is so lovely showed me I can be a good person and still be successful.’

Empire Of Light is a love story ‘set around a beautiful old cinema on the South Coast of England in the 1980s’.

Filming on the project began in early February in Margate. The seaside town was transported back to the 1980s as builders transformed the area surrounding the Dreamland amusement park.
