3-Year-Old Fatally Shoots Mom With Unsecured Gun – A South Carolina woman was reportedly shot and killed on Wednesday by her 3-year-old child who had access to a gun.
Cora Bush, 33, died after being shot at a residence in Spartanburg County. Bush’s mother was interviewed, and police said in a Facebook post that evidence suggests Bush’s toddler child got access to an unsecured gun and shot her. Bush was pronounced dead at a hospital.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday. An investigation is ongoing.
In conjunction with the release from the Coroner’s Office, this morning at approx. 7:45 AM, deputies responded to a shooting at 4750 S. Pine St. Upon arrival, deputies located the victim, a 3 year old child, and a maternal grandmother. Once EMS transported the victim, the grandmother was interviewed, and her account of the incident corroborated with both the evidence at the scene and the injury to the victim. Although our investigation remains active, all indications are this incident was a result of the young child gaining access to an unsecured firearm, which resulted in the mother being accidentally shot and later passing away at the hospital.

Pine St. Spartanburg, SC. I regret to inform you that Cora Lyn Bush 33 years of age of S. Pine St. Spartanburg, SC was pronounced dead at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center at 9:46 am. Please keep the family of Ms. Bush in your thoughts and prayers during this time of loss and grief. A forensic autopsy is scheduled for 9-22-22.
