Trainwreck director Judd Apatow is set to host the DGA Awards for a fourth time: ‘I am so honored’

Judd Apatow has signed on to host the 2023 DGA Awards set to take place February 18 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. 

It will be his fourth timing hosting the annual awards show after taking the stage in 2018, 2020 and 2022.

‘I am so honored to host the DGA awards for the fourth time. If I was ever nominated, I would stop,’ the Knocked Up director said in a statement released Thursday.

Directors Guild of America Awards Chair Beth McCarthy-Miller said she is ‘thrilled’ to have Judd as the host for the 75th annual gathering. 

‘Never underestimate the power of a Chipotle gift card,’ she joked. 

‘Judd’s a comedy genius that can be counted upon to keep things moving — and as host, he doesn’t have to worry about getting played off the stage.’

The awards ceremony celebrates the best directors in film and television. 

The Fableman’s director Steven Spielberg is competing against Tár director Todd Field, Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski, The Banshees of Inisherin’s Martin McDonough and the team of Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert who helmed Everything Everywhere All At Once in the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film.

Women directors Alice Diop, Audrey Diwan, Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic and Charlotte Wells are being singled out, along with John Patton Ford for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in First-Time Theatrical Feature Film.

Judd’s book, Sicker in the Head: More Conversations About Life and Comedy is a New York Times best seller. The tome includes chats with celebrities including; Mindy Kaling, Margaret Cho, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel and some two dozen others. 

The Bros producer’s latest project, an untitled film featuring Saturday Night Live’s Please Don’t Destroy trio of comics – Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy, is currently in post-production. 

The comedy about three friends set off to find a gold treasure rumored to be buried in the nearby mountain is set for release August 18.
