In December of last year, former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter was accused of rape and sued by two different women.

In an attempt to clear his name, Carter has decided to counter-sue the women with the pop star claiming that they are trying to take advantage of the #MeToo movement.

In the countersuit, Carter and his representatives claim that the two women were participating in a five-year conspiracy to “malign and vilify Carter and ruin his reputation in order to gain attention and fame and/or extort money from Carter.”

The record which was obtained by PEOPLE goes on to claim that the couple was labeled “opportunists” who wanted to “destroy innocent lives” and have caused $2.3 million in damage so far.

Allegations Linked to Carter’s Brother Aaron

The countersuit also claims that one of the women and her representatives were taking advantage of Carter’s younger brother Aaron who passed away in November.

Aaron’s struggles with addiction and mental health issues had reached a critical point when his family members attempted to intervene, urging him to seek professional help. Unfortunately, he responded by launching a misguided campaign of retaliation against Carter and other members of his family. The timing could not have been worse for Aaron as this was the period in which these issues were at their peak.

They took advantage of Aaron’s fragile condition and family stress to credibly cover up their smear campaign relentlessly and repeatedly using Aaron to try to legitimize their frivolous stories.

In the time leading up to her passing, Aaron acknowledged his involvement in the smear campaign against Nick and publicly proclaimed that the allegations made by those women were false.

Carter determined to clear his name

Carter who insists he is innocent is determined to clear his name at all costs hoping the lawsuit will do just that.

Everyone has the right to a fair trial and due process of law, regardless of whether they are accused of sexual assault or falsely accused. Every person should be given the opportunity to tell their story in an impartial setting, and for that story to be heard without prejudice. It is only through this process that justice can truly be served.
