Pet dog vanished during a morning walk – and took a 100-mile round-trip in a taxi before making his way home

  • Mischievous dog Ralph, three, ran off from his owner in Wrexham, north Wales
  • He eventually came home to owner Georgia Crewe – after a mystery taxi ride

A pet dog ran off at a beauty spot and went on a 100-mile taxi adventure as his owner fretted over his whereabouts at home.

Georgia Crewe, 27, was out walking three-year-old Ralph at Gresford Quarry in Wrexham, north Wales, when he disappeared from sight.

Ralph, a cross between a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, didn’t respond to Georgia’s worried calls and she spent three hours trying to find him.

Unbeknownst to her, the pet dog had jumped into a warm, open taxi after running to a nearby home.

Miss Crewe, of Wrexham, says the driver was headed to Manchester Airport and so took lost little Ralph along for the ride.

She said: ‘It turned out that he’d left the quarry and gone back to the road in the direction of home.

‘A taxi had pulled up to pick up a family who were heading on their holidays. It was cold, and Ralph just jumped in to the cab.’

Ralph had run off from Miss Crewe at 5am on Monday while she chatted with another dog owner on their morning walk.

The bemused taxi driver allowed the friendly dog to stay in the car as he made the long airport trip, noticing he didn’t have any identification visible on his collar.

The airport passenger also had no objections to be joined by a four-legged travel companion.

After the airport drop off, Ralph was taken to the driver’s home in Mold, Flintshire, before an online search revealed the owner.

Miss Cooke has now been reunited with her dog and is set to get a geolocating tag, a flashing light and an identity disc so he is more easily found if he decides to embark on another 100-mile adventure.

Miss Cooke said of her beloved pet: ‘He’s my baby. He’s super intelligent and it’s really uncharacteristic for him to disappear.

‘He got back home, had a big breakfast and has slept most of the day.’
