Starting out in the 1970s as a stand-up comedian performing in various venues across New York City, Richard Belzer quickly rose to national fame when he appeared on “Saturday Night Live” and delivered an iconic monologue about his experience with UFO sightings. His unique brand of deadpan comedy and offbeat humor soon became his trademark, leading him to appear on a variety of comedy specials and talk shows.

In 1981, Richard Belzer made his debut in the film “The Ninth Configuration,” directed by William Peter Blatty. He went on to feature in such films as “Fame” (1982), “Scarface” (1983), and “The Natural” (1984). In 1993, he began playing Detective John Munch on the television series “Homicide: Life on the Street” – a role based upon a real-life Baltimore detective which garnered him critical acclaim. After seven seasons, he moved to its spin-off show “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”.

Richard Belzer’s portrayal of Detective Munch on “Law & Order: SVU” was an iconic character in the 2000s. His fifteen-season run from 1999 to 2014, along with his appearances in crossovers with other shows such as “The X-Files,” “The Beat,” and “Arrested Development” cemented him as one of the most recognizable television characters during that time.

Richard Belzer is a multitalented individual, who has achieved success in both the acting and writing fields. He published his debut book “UFOs, JFK and Elvis: Conspiracies You Don’t Have to Be Crazy to Believe” in 1999. Subsequently, he released three more titles; “How to be a Stand-Up Comic” (2008), “I Am Not A Cop!” (2009), and “Dead Wrong: Straight Facts on the Country’s Most Controversial Cover-Ups” (2012). This impressive body of work demonstrates Belzer’s ability as an author.

Comedian Richard Belzer has had a long and successful career, but it has not been without controversy. In 1992, he was sued for making disparaging remarks about a female flight attendant during one of his comedy sets. The case was eventually settled out of court. More recently in 2006, Belzer became involved in an altercation with a Fox News producer during an interview that made headlines due to the footage being captured on camera.

In 2016, Jerry Belzer announced his retirement from the acting profession due to health issues. Despite this, he has made sporadic appearances in various film and television projects since then. Additionally, Belzer has also been engaged on social media platforms where he shares his opinion about politics and current events with fans of his work.
