One person is dead and two others are seriously injured after a semi-trailer drifted off a busy street before smashing into a car and partially destroying a house.

Police were called to Goderich St in the Launceston suburb of Invermay just before 7am on Wednesday morning to find the De Bruyn’s semi-trailer embedded inside the house.

Tasmania Police confirmed the truck driver had tragically died in the crash after his vehicle veered across the street.

‘Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this difficult time,’ police said.

Two people in a white Toyota Corolla were hit before the truck smashed into the home.

They were both rushed to Launceston General Hospital with serious injuries.

Nobody inside the house was injured despite the truck passing through at least two walls of the home.

It is not clear yet what caused the accident or why the truck veered off the road.

The white car appeared to have been hit while on the street before the truck broke through bushes, ran over a fence and then struck the back side of the house.

Police were at the scene for much of Wednesday morning to conduct investigations and clear the scene of debris.

Motorists were advised to use alternative routes such as Vermont Road and Invermay Road to avoid traffic delays until further notice.

Daily Mail has reached out to Debruyn’s for comment.
