Two men, aged 21 and 59, tragically drown to death at popular Queensland swimming hole after struggling to get out of the water

Two men have drowned at a popular swimming hole in Far North Queensland

The swimmers, aged 21 and 59, were pulled unresponsive from the water at Crystal Cascade, about 20km west of Cairns, at about 5pm on Tuesday. 

The men, believed to be tourists, were sadly declared deceased a short time later.

Queensland Police said officers were called to the swimming spot in Lamb Range in relation to reports two men were struggling to get out of the water. 

Their deaths are not considered as suspicious.  

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said a woman was treated for emotional distress before she was taken to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition. 

A rescue helicopter, paramedics and swiftwater rescue technicians attended the scene on Tuesday afternoon.

Queensland Police said a report would be prepared for the coroner following the death of two swimmers at Crystal Cascade Waterfall. 

‘Police were called at approximately 5pm in relation to two swimmers struggling to get out of the water,’ a statement read. 

‘The men aged 21 and 59 were located in the water unresponsive and declared deceased a short time later.

‘There are no suspicious circumstances.’
