Harrowing moment 11-year-old boy holding a knife is Tasered by police during a stand-off at a holiday park

This is the shocking moment an 11-year-old boy brandishing a knife was reportedly Tasered by police during a stand-off at a holiday park. 

Officers were called to the Craig Tara holiday park, Ayr, Scotland to reports of a schoolboy with a blade.

Video footage appears to show police surrounding the child asking him ‘what are you going to do with that knife’ as he allegedly waved the weapon at them. 

They are heard telling him ‘throw the knife away’ and ‘put the knife down’.  

One officer then approaches him with a Taser before delivering the shock, sending the boy ‘screaming in agony,’ according to a witness.

The boy was heard repeatedly swearing at police and writhing on the grass in the incident on March 22. 

It is believed he could be the youngest person to have ever been shot with a Taser in Scotland. 

An eyewitness told The Sun: ‘The boy was brandishing a knife and was repeatedly asked to drop it.

‘Officers were bearing down on him and it seemed like he was in panic mode. Even though the Taser was aimed at him it was still disturbing when it was actually fired.

‘The lad was badly shaken up and screaming out in pain and shock.’

Police Scotland have reportedly referred the incident to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.

Meanwhile Joanne Smith, of NSPCC Scotland, described the incident as ‘extremely concerning’ as she urged police to revise the practice of using Tasers on under-18s. 

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told MailOnline: ‘Officers attended a disturbance involving an 11-year-old boy in possession of a knife at Craig Tara Caravan Park near Ayr around 11.15pm on Wednesday, 22 March.

‘The incident was resolved with no serious injuries. It was contained and there was no risk to the wider public.

‘A Taser was discharged during this incident. As part of standard procedure, the circumstances of the incident were referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.’
