Football boss’s jilted ex-girlfriend ‘smashed club’s bar, caused flood by turning on beer taps and threatened to stab female staff member in furious bust-up after he dumped her’

  • Laura Evenden admitted criminal damage and threatening a person with a knife
  • Maidstone Crown Court judge branded her rampage as an ‘orgy of destruction’

A jilted ex-girlfriend wrecked a football club’s bar and threatened staff after the team’s boss ended their relationship, a court has heard.

Laura Evenden, 45, caused £5,300 worth of damage when she targeted the bar at non-league Chatham Town last June. She is understood to have been furious that chairman and manager Kevin Hake had dumped her in early 2022.

Evenden smashed the bar, burst a balloon display, lobbed fruit from a fridge, pushed a TV and hurled paint cans on the floor, caused a flood by turning on the beer taps, and stabbed a club sign, sofa and cushions, The Sun reported.

The scorned ex-lover also threatened to stab a female staff member if her demand to speak with Mr Hake, 47, was not met.

She has now admitted criminal damage and threatening a person with a knife over the rampage which the judge has branded as an ‘orgy of destruction’.

Evenden, of Chatham, carried out the attack on June 16 last year after turning up to the club with a knife in her handbag.

Her wrecking spree, which luckily saw no one injured, only ended when her mother arrived to the club, Maidstone Crown Court heard.

Judge Philip Statman handed Evenden a 12-month jail sentence, suspended two years, and told her she was fortunate that nobody got hurt.

‘You proceeded on an orgy of destruction,’ he said of her rampage.

Mr Hake dumped Evenden at the start of 2022. It is unclear what circumstances led to their separation.

Chatham Town will play in England’s seventh tier Isthmian Premier next season following promotion.
