Heat health alerts are issued for the whole of England until Monday as mercury hits 29C

Heat health alerts have been announced for the whole of England as the nation continues to scorch under the sun.

The alerts will be in place until Monday, the UK Health Security Agency announced today.

‘All regions of England have been placed under a yellow alert for this period. Five regions were previously under an amber alert from Friday 9 June until 9am this morning and have been de-escalated to yellow,’ the UKHSA said.

A plume of hot air driven from the south saw some areas of the UK hotter than the Mediterranean at the weekend.

The beginning of the week saw thunderstorms in many areas, which resulted in high humidity levels across the country.

Now, the Met Office say the high temperatures are set to continue.

Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud said: ‘The weather will try and settle down on Tuesday and mid-week. But it will maintain this well-above-average temperature. Most of the UK will meet heatwave criteria.’

Yellow weather warnings are also in force on Tuesday 13 June in some areas of Scotland and across Northern Ireland.

However, it has been forecast that on Friday 16 June, the UK will enjoy a short break from the heatwave and temperatures will fall below 24C in most areas- hopefully bringing an end to the muggy evenings.

But by 23 June, temperatures are expected to soar again with the majority of the country facing above average heat until July 11.

Warmer temperatures are expected in the west and Eastern areas, especially coasts which may see cloudy cool periods.

Some more thunderstorms and spells of rain are expected between then, but temperatures aren’t expected to average until mid-July.

According to the Met Office some places across the UK have exceeded the heatwave threshold already, with temperatures reaching above 30C for the first time in 2023.
