Two people rushed to hospital after incident on Clacton-on-Sea pier ride

Two people have been rushed to hospital with head injuries after an incident on a pier ride in Clacton-on-Sea. 

Emergency services were reportedly called to the seaside attraction ‘Looping Star’ at 12.40pm today.

A male staff member suffered a serious cut to his head while a woman, who was in a car at the front of the rollercoaster, suffered a bump to the head and shock. 

The pair were taken to Colchester Hospital for treatment.

Essex Police said: ‘Emergency services attended an incident on around 12.40pm this afternoon.

‘It was reported that a member of staff had sustained serious injuries after colliding with a mechanical ride which had not deviated from its track. 

‘A second person, a member of the public, also received minor injuries and both have been taken to hospital for treatment.

‘We are liaising with Clacton Pier and the Health and Safety Executive on the incident.’

A spokesman for East of England Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called at 12.31pm with reports of a person who was injured at the Pier in Clacton.

‘We sent two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

‘A man was taken to Colchester Hospital by land ambulance with minor injuries.’
