Heart-stopping moment woman is saved by a tree as ATV barrels towards her

A festival-goer narrowly escaped being crushed by a rogue ATV vehicle as it became separated from its driver and careened down a hill into the crowd. 

The woman was standing beside the dirt track of an ATV drag race at the Interstate Fair and Exposition in Mineral Wells, West Virginia last week when one of the vehicles lost control and began to barrel down the hill towards her. 

The long-haired woman, wearing blue shorts, a red top and brown boots, attempted to shield herself behind a tree but the 4×4 continued gaining momentum after it collided straight into it. 

She then fell onto her back, doing a backwards somersault in a desperate attempt to get out of the path of destruction. 

The driverless quad bike bounced and rolled over on itself several times at great speed.

Fortunately it bounced over the woman’s head before rolling the rest of the way down the grassy embankment of the hill. 

Startled onlookers in the crowd shouted in horror at the potential scene unfolding.

Shouts of ‘Oh my God!’, ‘Look out!’ and ‘Oh s**t!’ could be heard over the vehicles buzzing engine.

Once the danger had passed several fellow festival goers then rushed over to the woman lying on the ground. 

She appeared shocked and shaken up by her lucky escape but not seriously harmed. 

Another woman in the crowd, wearing a blue t-shirt, shorts and a cap checked on the woman and then headed up the hill to ensure no further ATV’s were coming their way.  

The West Virginia Interstate Fair and Exposition took place over four days last week, and is an annual tradition to support the local agriculture industry.

The traditional country affair included ATV mud bogs, ATV drag racing, tractor pulls, a horse show, watermelon eating competitions and haybale throwing.
