A child has died and three others left injured after a fire ripped through a home in Swansea yesterday.

Emergency services rushed to the residence in Gonhill, West Cross around 1.20pm where a blaze had broken out.

South Wales police say four people were in the home at the time of the fire, including the child who died.

A man was taken to Morriston Hospital in ‘serious condition’ with undisclosed injuries sustained during the blaze. 

The other occupants, a woman and another child, suffered smoke inhalation. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

The home appeared to suffer damage to its interior and at least one broken window, but the full extent of the destruction remains unknown at this time.

Detective Inspector Carl Price, from South Wales Police, said yesterday: ‘Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the child who has tragically died at a house fire in West Cross, Swansea.

‘Of the three others who were in the house at the time, one child and a woman suffered smoke inhalation, and one man is in a serious condition in Morriston Hospital.

‘An investigation is being carried out to establish the exact circumstances of the fire.

‘We wish to thank members of the community who helped at the scene and those who have come forward with information.’
