One officer reportedly tried to grab the Commodore but was flung across the bonnet of a nearby police vehicle after the driver allegedly put his foot down on the accelerator.

The officer fired a number of shots from his gun as the sedan sped away.

Shocked residents in Winston Hills described hearing ‘loud bangs’ as the police chase unfolded.

One described said the noise sounded like ‘fireworks’ were going off as police pursued the driver.

One man, 21, got out of the Commodore a short time after shots were fired and was immediately arrested.

The driver headed north along Old Windsor Road before travelling west on the M7.

He then got off at the M4 and headed west along the Great Western Highway towards the Blue Mountains.

Police deployed road spikes at Springwood in a bid to stop the Commodore, but they failed.
