Behind the Scenes of Bridgerton Stars Reveal Challenges of Filming Intimate Scenes, Kelly Valentine Hendry, the casting director behind the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, has been inundated with unsolicited audition tapes from eager actors hoping to land a role in the upcoming fourth season. In a recent interview on the “Should I Delete That” podcast, Hendry revealed the extent of the situation, stating,
“It’s every day … I get the most unbelievable videos, unsolicited. It’s sex basically, it’s not actual sex but it’s quite punchy. It’s not nudey pictures, but not far off.”
Hendry expressed her disappointment with the situation, adding, “It’s a bit sad, really, I don’t understand.” The casting director, known for her work on shows like Broadchurch and Fleabag, has been instrumental in assembling the talented ensemble cast of Bridgerton since the series’ inception.
Despite the unconventional audition tapes, Hendry and her team continue to meticulously search for the perfect actors to bring the Bridgerton world to life. Their efforts have paid off, as the show has become a global phenomenon, captivating audiences with its steamy storylines and lavish period settings.
In a separate interview, actress Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington in the series, discussed the challenges of filming intimate scenes with co-star Luke Newton for the upcoming third season. Coughlan revealed that while they had joked about the prospect of kissing in earlier seasons, the reality of filming those scenes was a bit awkward.
“When Luke and I read the books at the beginning of season one, it was funny for us to imagine what it would be like if we had to kiss,” Coughlan shared. “Then season three comes around and we were like: ‘This is it. I have to kiss my friend!’ And we really had to kiss.”
Despite the initial discomfort, Coughlan praised Newton for making her feel comfortable and supported throughout the process. “It’s a spicy one, but Luke made me feel taken care of. We had each other’s backs and worked really hard to make it sexy and feel real.” However, the actors couldn’t help but laugh off the experience once the cameras stopped rolling.
As Bridgerton continues to captivate audiences worldwide, the dedication and professionalism of the cast and crew, led by the tireless efforts of casting director Kelly Valentine Hendry, remain the driving force behind the show’s success.
