Lily Gladstone Makes History as First Native American Oscar Nominee for “Killers of the Flower Moon”, received an Oscar nomination. She also won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Film. However, Lily reveals she disliked attending red carpet events.

In fact, she compared the Golden Globes experience to the intense survival game show “Squid Game.” During an interview on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Lily was asked if she enjoys award shows. She responded, “Meeting people is the fun part.”

Lily added, “The Globes felt a bit like ‘Squid Game.’ You’re wearing tight shapewear, and needing to use the restroom. The only break comes during commercials. It’s a mad scramble to meet your idols like Meryl Streep during that brief time. That part wasn’t bad.”

Lily shared her fear of embarrassing herself when meeting celebrities. She said, “I just assume I’ll say something silly.”

At the Globes, Lily made history as the first Native American woman to win Best Actress in a Drama Film. She delivered her acceptance speech in the Blackfeet language. Lily told the audience, “I love everyone here. Words fail me.

I spoke to some Blackfeet, the beautiful community that raised me and encouraged me. My mom, though not Blackfeet, worked hard to bring our language into our classroom, ensuring I had a Blackfeet language teacher growing up.”

Despite the challenges of tight clothing and limited restroom breaks, Lily enjoyed meeting her idols at the award show. She felt honored to represent her Native American community while accepting the prestigious award. Lily’s humility and connection to her roots made her a standout that evening.

I am very thankful that I can speak some of my native language. This is a language I am not fluent in. But I can use it a little in my work. In the past, actors from Native communities had to say their lines in English.

Then, sound engineers would run those English lines backward. They did this to create the Native language sounds needed for the film. This process was used to show Native languages on camera.
