The 31-year-old pop megastar shot to fame playing the title role on ‘Hannah Montana’ for the network in the late 2000s, whilst Selena, 32, starred in the leading role of ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ but according to Selena’s co-star Jennifer Stone, the pair did not film any scenes together for a special crossover episode because they had both dated fellow teen idol, Nick Jonas.
Speaking on the ‘Wizards of Waverly Pod’ podcast, she told co-host David DeLuise: “They intermittently got along. I mean, come on. It was like high school. “They both dated Nick [Jonas], I think Miley dated him first and then Selena dated him, and then it was just messy high school nonsense. I know they were intermittently not getting along. It as high school BS.
In 2008 , Miley and Selena were shooting a special episode of their respective shows titled ‘Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana’ with Cole and Dylan Sprouse, who starred in ‘The Suite Life on Deck’.
Jennifer – who played Harper Finkle on the magical sitcom alongside Selena – insisted that the pair of pop megastars are “fine” with each other now and cannot really remember what all the drama was about in the first place.
She said: “They’re fine now. But, yeah, it was high school just. You have a crush on the same person, you like, date the same person. Hormones. Now, you look back and you’re like, ‘I don’t even remember what we were upset about.”
Before getting her big break as Alex Russo on ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’, Selena guest-starred on two episodes of ‘Hannah Montana’ as singer Mikayla, the rival character of Miley’s titular pop star alter-ego and in 2023, the ‘Only Murders in the Building’ actress poked fun at their on-screen rivalry when they released their singles on the same day.
Alongside a clip of themselves in character during the second season of the musical sitcom, Selena wrote on Instagram: “@mileycyrus and I both have a SINGLE SOON and we are releasing on the same day.
“We have been friends since we USED TO BE YOUNG. Excited for August 25!!!”
