Who was Ashley Bird? California Mother Fatally Shot by Estranged Husband During Zoom Call

Ashley Bird (age 35, 1988 – April 16, 2024) was a dedicated Social Media Strategist at SMC National, where she showcased her expertise since June 2019. She juggled her professional career with the responsibilities of being a single mother to her 9-year-old son.

Sadly, Ashley was fatally shot by her estranged husband, Christopher Bird, on April 16, 2024. She was found with a gunshot wound to the head at her home on La Presa Avenue near Jamacha Boulevard around 10:30 a.m. San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies declared her dead at the scene, ruling it a homicide.

Later that day, Christopher Bird was found dead in his vehicle at Calafia Beach Park in San Clemente by Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies. The details surrounding his death are still under investigation by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

Ashley Killed During Zoom Call

On April 16, 2024, while working from home for SMC National, Ashley was on a Zoom call with a colleague when she thought someone was trying to break into her house. She left the call abruptly, saying she needed to check on it. Her coworker, concerned, contacted Ashley’s mother Patti Weber, who then called the authorities.

Deputies arrived at Ashley’s home in Spring Valley after reports of a break-in. Sadly, they found her with a severe head injury. Despite their efforts, she didn’t survive. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound, and it was ruled a homicide.

Meanwhile, in San Clemente, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies found Ashley’s estranged husband, Christopher Bird, dead in his car at Calafia Beach Park. His death is also under investigation.

How Ashley Bird Met Christopher Bird

According to Ashley Bird’s Facebook post, Her and Christopher’s relationship began at church in October 2010. Christopher, who returned from Afghanistan, started attending the same church as Ashley. She wasn’t initially interested in dating, despite some nudging from friends and family.

In November, Christopher invited her and her brother to go rock climbing. Ashley, who had never climbed before and was afraid of heights, reluctantly agreed. Afterward, they had dinner together, and She started to wonder if it was a date when Christopher insisted on paying.

They exchanged numbers, and although She was initially annoyed that Christopher got her number without asking, they started texting and getting to know each other. By Thanksgiving, they realized they liked each other more than just friends.

Their relationship quickly grew, and by Christmas, Christopher told Ashley he loved her. She was caught off guard but eventually admitted her feelings too. Christopher proposed on January 31st, and they were married by July. They were married for more than 10 years but then they got divorced.
