Thomas Weeks (age 48, September 27, 1975- April 29, 2024) served as a Deputy U.S. Marshal, committed to enforcing the law and delivering justice. For 13 years, he faithfully served in the Western District of North Carolina, aiding the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Before joining the United States Department of Justice – United States Marshals Service, Weeks spent eight years with the United States Department of Homeland Security – Customs and Border Protection, showcasing his dedication to public service.
Tragically, on April 29, while carrying out an arrest warrant in Charlotte, North Carolina, Weeks faced a fatal encounter. During the operation to apprehend Terry Clark Hughes Jr., 39, wanted for possessing a firearm as a felon in Lincoln County, Hughes Jr. opened fire on the officers around 1:30 p.m.
This resulted in the heartbreaking loss of Weeks and three fellow officers – Alden Elliot, Joshua Eyer, and Sam Poloche. Furthermore, several other officers sustained injuries in the incident.
Thomas Weeks Started his Career in 2011
Deputy Thomas Weeks Jr. was born in Crofton, Maryland on September 27, 1975, to his mother and father Thomas Michael Weeks Sr., where he grew up with his brother Michael Weeks. Thomas embarked on his journey with the United States Marshals Service (USMS) in February 2011, initially stationed at the District of Columbia’s Superior Court in Washington, DC.
Later, in November 2014, he made a transition to Charlotte, NC, continuing his service with USMS.
Before his tenure with USMS, Deputy Weeks devoted eight years to Customs and Border Protection, accumulating a total of 13 years of dedicated service to our nation.
Throughout the past decade, he served with excellence in the Western District of North Carolina, leaving a remarkable legacy of commitment and professionalism.
Weeks was Survived by his wife and Kids
Thomas Weeks had a happy family with his wife, Kelly Garraghan, and four kids. They celebrated their anniversary every May 21, sharing lots of love. Even with his busy job as a marshal, he made sure to spend time with them. Kelly often posted their fun moments on Instagram and Facebook, like Thomas’s birthday party.
