Alabama freshman football star Tony Mitchell is arrested and charged with marijuana possession in school’s latest controversy… after basketball player Darius Miles was indicted on capital murder charges

One of Alabama‘s top new football recruits, Tony Mitchell, has been arrested and charged with marijuana possession – in just the latest controversy surrounding the school’s sports program.

Mitchell’s arrest comes just weeks after the basketball team became embroiled in a capital murder investigation, with Darius Miles indicted by a grand jury and up to three more players also linked to the scene of the crime.

Mitchell – a four-star recruit – was pulled over by cops on Wednesday, per a Facebook post from the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, alongside his friend Christophere Lewis.

Both men were charged with possession of marijuana, and the intent to sell and/or deliver, while Lewis was also charged with ‘carrying a concealed firearm without a permit.’

In the Facebook post, police said: ‘During the stop, deputies detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. When asked if there was marijuana in the vehicle, Mitchell produced a baggie of marijuana from the passenger floorboard. Both Mitchell and Lewis were taken into custody.

‘A search of the vehicle produced an additional significant amount of marijuana, a set of scales, a loaded handgun between the passenger seat and center console, and a large amount of cash.’

Cops also posted a picture of the pair’s mugshots and a photo of the evidence recovered from the scene.

Mitchell is listed on the Crimson Tide’s roster for 2023 and is a four-star recruit out of Thompson High School.

When he committed to play for Alabama in June, he was ranked No. 15 in the Class of 2023, choosing Bama over Auburn, Georgia and Texas A&M.

Alabama have the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in 2023 and are scheduled to begin spring practice on Monday morning.
