Alex Murdaugh fans are sending money to the double murderer’s prison shop account, it has been revealed. The disgraced legal scion, 54, is languishing in South Carolina’s McCormick Correctional Institution after he was jailed for life for killing his wife and son. Murdaugh’s notoriety means his account at the prison’s commissary – where inmates can buy sodas, snacks and toiletries – has been flooded with cash from well-wishers, including women who are writing him love letters. Murdaugh was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in March after the brutal murders of his wife Maggie, 52, and son Paul, 22, at their sprawling hunting estate in Moselle in June, 2021. He gunned the pair down in cold blood as his life spiraled out of control after he embezzled millions from his family law firm to feed his crippling opioid addiction. But the barbarity of the killings has done little to put off dozens of women who have been writing him love letters. Many of them are also putting money into Murdaugh’s prison account. Money can be transferred online, by mobile app, by telephone, via letter and even at various retail locations including Walmart, ACE, Kmart and Kroger. Murdaugh’s attorney Jim Griffin told Fox News his client was not yet able to access the funds. Back at the Colleton County Courthouse where the trial took place, tourists from as far away as the United Kingdom have been coming to visit the historic site. ‘They want to see where the holding cell was where Alex Murdaugh was held during the day,’ court clerk Becky Hill told WCSC. ‘They want to see the witness stand, where the jury sat, where the prosecution sat, the defense people sat, the jury room.’ Court staff have a special route that takes tourists through the court, inside the courtroom where Murdaugh faced the jury, and around the outside. A 36-year-old Missouri mother, Rachel B., told Murdaugh, ‘I would bet I’m the hottest one you’ve gotten mail from thus far!’ Others were more sexually suggestive. ‘The thought of Alex Murdaugh consumes me day and night,’ Danielle H. swooned in an April 13 email. ‘I’m almost tempted to write you something erotic. I think I have become obsessed with you. I don’t care what you’ve done,’ she added. ‘Alex. Can you please respond?…Mr. Murdaugh? Just one little hi?’ In an earlier email, the Las Vegas resident said: ‘I am constantly thinking about you. I cannot stop. It did not appear that Murdaugh had replied to any of the women. His attorney Griffin cautioned that the ‘fans’ may have ulterior motives. ‘It does appear to me that they have become more romantic, and I’m suspicious that people who are writing know their messages will be sent to the media,’ he told Fox. The SCDC also published call logs from April 3 to 21, showing Murdaugh placed 65 collect phone calls but only 16 were accepted. ‘I think all those are calls to me and my office,’ Griffin told Fox. ‘There have been significant issues with the phone system there. One day he reported he tried me 20 times before it went through.’ Murdaugh has been provided with heavily regulated phone and messaging capability in jail.
