A man and a two-year-old boy have been found dead inside a property in northern NSW.

NSW Police were called to a unit on College Street in East Lismore at about 9.45pm on Sunday to perform a welfare check.

Officers had to force their way inside the home where they found the bodies of a 38-year-old man and a two-year-old boy.

Detectives have declared a crime scene and launched an investigation.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
