A jury was sworn in yesterday for the trial of a father-of-two who is accused of murdering his girlfriend’s 15-month-old son.

Jacob Lennon died after he was rushed to hospital from the family home in Putney, southwest London with serious head injuries in August 2019. A post-mortem examination found injuries consistent with long-term abuse.

Jake Drummond, 33, and Louise Lennon, 32, both face charges arising from Jacob’s death.

Drummond denies murdering Jacob and a further charge of wounding the baby with intent in relation to earlier injuries.

Lennon denies causing or allowing the death of a child and cruelty to a child.

Jacob was pronounced dead at 7.22am after he was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting on August 27, 2019.

The prosecution allege his injuries are consistent with a series of assaults over a period of time, culminating in a single episode resulting in his death.’

Drummond, of no fixed address, denies murder and wounding with intent.

Lennon, of Ingrave Street, Wandsworth, southwest London, denied causing or allowing the death of a child and child cruelty.

Drummond is in custody while Lennon remains on bail with conditions of residence and daily curfew between 10pm and 7am.

Twelve jurors and two reserves were sworn in to try the case which is expected to last up to five weeks.

Sally O’Neill, KC, is due to open the case for the prosecution tomorrow, on January 8.
