The body of a man believed to be in his 50s has been found floating in a Sydney river.

About 6.50am on Saturday morning, emergency services were called to the Lane Cove River, West Pymble, following reports of a body in the water.

Officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command believe the body is that of a man aged in his 50s.

A crime scene has been established, and detectives have launched an investigation into the incident.

As inquiries continue police are urging anyone with CCTV vision, dashcam footage or information about the incident to contact Chatswood Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
