A baby girl has been left with ‘serious injuries’ after a man attempted to snatch the infant from her mother.
The suspected kidnapper allegedly tried to abduct the girl in a residential street in Bolton, Greater Manchester, on Tuesday evening.
But the man was tackled and detained by heroic Good Samaritans as he attempted to escape with the infant, Greater Manchester Police has said.
Police have since arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of kidnap following the alleged attack, which took place in Mayor Street at 6.30pm.
Detective Inspector Tony Lunt of Greater Manchester Police Bolton CID today praised those who stepped in and stopped the suspect.

‘I’d like to thank the quick work and bravery of members of the public who assisted in detaining a man who was arrested by officers,’ DI Lunt said.
‘He has been taken into police custody where he will be questioned.’
It is not known exactly what injuries the girl suffered and how she received them.
However, DI Lunt said: ‘This was an incredibly distressing incident during which a child received serious injuries.
‘Although these are thankfully not life-threatening, the mother of the child was understandably very shaken by the incident and is receiving support from specialist officers at this time.
‘I understand the concerns it will raise in the community but I would like to reassure you that this is being treated as an isolated incident and there is not believed to be any wider threat to the community.’
The suspect remains in police custody.
Detectives have now appealed for witnesses who were in Mayor Street between 6.20pm and 6.40pm to come forward.
