Emergency services were called to a unit complex in Richmond Avenue, Auburn just after 7.30pm yesterday.
Paramedics treated a man there but he died at the scene.
Police officers from Auburn arrested a 32-year-old man soon after on nearby South Parade.
He was taken to Auburn police station where he was assisting with inquiries, police said.
Officers said the men knew each other.
