Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after a woman was stabbed to death in Doncaster.

Officers were called to reports of a ‘dispute’ at a property on Main Street in Sprotborough, a village immediately west of the South Yorkshire city, at around 8pm on Saturday August 5.

A 53-year-old woman was found inside with suspected stab wounds and she died a short time later.

Multiple police vehicles were parked on Main Street in the town and a cordon was established following the incident at around 8pm on Saturday August 5. A 52-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in custody

South Yorkshire Police later said that a 52-year-old man had been arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody, according to BBC Yorkshire.

A post-mortem examination was carried out and established that the woman died of a stab wound. 

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police added: ‘Despite the best efforts of officers and ambulance crews, she sadly died a short time later.

‘While formal identification has not yet taken place, the woman’s family have been notified and we ask that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.’

Police tape was also drawn across an entrance to the property, which officers were seen leaving while wearing blue rubber globes.
