A man and woman have been arrested after allegedly assaulting protective services officers at Melbourne CBD’s court precinct.

Police alleged the pair were being disruptive and removed from a court on William Street today when they assaulted the officers and fled the scene.

The officers began chasing them down the road when they allegedly lashed out for a second time.

The 36-year-old man was stopped outside the Supreme Court and doused in pepper spray while the 25-year-old woman was cornered on Little Bourke Street.

Police said the pair, both from South Yarra, were arrested and taken to a nearby police station, where they are currently being questioned.

No officers were injured in the incident and no charges have been laid. 

9News understands the man was due to face court today.
