A man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and stabbing staff at a hospital in Western Sydney.

Police were called to Westmead Hospital about 11.30pm yesterday where four staff members were allegedly attacked by a man.

Two security guards, aged 24 and 25, were allegedly stabbed in the effort to subdue him and suffered cuts on their bodies.

The pair are in stable condition. 

A third security guard dislocated his shoulder and a male nurse suffered minor injuries.

The man was arrested and remains under police guard at the hospital.

It is believed he was a patient at the hospital.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing as police urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
