A man has been charged for the alleged murder of a young surfer at a beach on the New South Wales’ North Coast last month.

Authorities were called to Ocean Parade in Coffs Harbour about 6.40am on May 2 over reports a man had been stabbed.

First responders arrived to find 21-year-old local Kye Schaefer with chest and neck injuries.

He was rushed to hospital, where he later died.

Police have today arrested a 36-year-old man at a Coffs Harbour correctional facility.

He was taken to the local police station where he was charged with murder.

The man has been refused bail and will front a court today.
