Police have charged a man after money raised for the family of Hannah McGuire, who was allegedly killed by her ex-partner, was stolen.

An online fundraiser was quickly established on behalf of the Clunes Cricket Club, where McGuire’s family is involved, which raised almost $65,000 following her death.

Police confirmed today a 26-year-old Winter Valley man has been accused of stealing the money raised.

“Moorabool Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a theft in Ballarat between 25 April and 8 May,” police said.

A GoFundMe spokesperson told 9news.com.au that they were aware of the incident. 

“The GoFundMe Trust and Safety team is aware of this alleged misuse of funds, and will work with authorities and all parties to reach a resolution,” the spokesperson said.

The man has been bailed to appear before the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on June 20.

Lachlan Young, 21, has been charged with murder over McGuire’s death.
