A man has been killed after he was hit by a car south of Sydney.

Police received a report a pedestrian had been struck on Lakelands Drive in Dapto, in the Illawarra region, about 10.45am today. 

People nearby and police began CPR on the man while paramedics were on their way but he was unable to be revived.

Police said the man hasn’t been formally identified but is believed to be aged in his 70s.

The driver, a 43-year-old woman, was treated by paramedics for shock before she was taken to Wollongong Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police have established a crime scene to investigate the crash.
