A manhunt is under way after a man was shot during a home invasion in Sydney’s south-west.

At about 12.45am today, emergency services were called to a home on Mary Wade Place in Carnes Hill.

Paramedics treated a 25-year-old man for a gunshot wound to the right leg.

He was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police were told that eight men wearing face coverings had broken into the home.

They confronted the 25-year-old before he was shot twice.

The intruders also fired a shotgun at a car. (9News)

The men then poured petrol through the home but did not ignite it, before fleeing in two separate vehicles.

A shotgun was also fired at a vehicle parked in the driveway of the home.

The incident is believed to be targeted.
