Tony Bui brought his brand new Kia Carnival home to his Footscray property on Friday afternoon.Â
The 42-year-old had planned a road trip on Saturday but a stranger swooped in at 6am as the family was about to leave.
Then Bui’s son spotted the stolen car on Nicholson Street yesterday morning.
Bui called police at about 8am and waited for them to arrive.
About 15 minutes later he demanded his keys and was attacked.
“He punched me in the eyes, he attacked me first,” the 42-year-old told 9News Melbourne.
His son said he witnessed and filmed the attack, which left the father with a broken nose and fractured cheek.
The panicked 12-year-old called Triple Zero.
“My dad’s bleeding, my dad’s bleeding,” he told the call operator.
“Can you come quickly please?”
A police station is located about 500 metres from where the father was allegedly attacked.
Bui said he was disappointed it took more than 20 minutes for help to arrive after he had called Triple Zero to report that he had found his stolen car.Â
While the father got his key back, the alleged attacker left the scene before police arrived.
