A member of a prominent AFL family has been charged with sexual offences.
The man was charged today by Victoria Police’s Sexual Offences Squad and faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.
He is from a famous family with ties to an AFL club but cannot be named or identified in any way due to a suppression order granted by the magistrate.
The man has been charged with two counts of rape and three counts of common law assault.
It’s alleged the offences occurred over a two-week period in January in Melbourne’s east.
The court heard it was the man’s first time in custody.
He was released on bail on various conditions, including not to leave the country.
9News plans to fight the suppression order in the coming weeks before the man’s next appearance.
