New South Wales’ Premier Chris Minns has defended his government’s approach to the conflict in the Middle East after his office was targeted by protesters overnight.

His electorate office in Kogarah was splattered with red paint and graffiti that read “murder” about 2.35am today, according to police.

It is believed pro-Palestine protesters are responsible for the damage.

“It’s really hard to know what motivates someone to commit an act of vandalism,” Minns said at a press conference today.

Minns reiterated his government would continue to focus on community cohesion and peace in the state, rather than foreign conflict.

“I’m not responsible for places around the world, particularly not in the Middle East,” he said.

“But I am responsible for peace right here in Sydney and this state and that’s what our approach to this complex issue has been.

“Yes, you have an absolute right to protest. You also have a responsibility to treat other people who live in the city with respect.”

Police are investigating the vandalism and have appealed to the public for help.

Anyone with information or CCTV footage in relation to the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
