The owners of a service station in Sydney are calling for a crackdown on crime after a worker was held at knifepoint.

The masked offender took off with thousands of dollars in cash and remained on the run this evening.

The alleged offender, dressed in black, calmly made his entrance to the Guildford service station in the city’s west about 4am today.

Moments later he pointed the blade at a terrified 23-year-old overnight worker.

He jumped on the counter of the Metro Petroleum on Rawson Road, yanked out the cash register and took off.

The intruder and his waiting accomplice were $3000 richer after the 30-second, calculated cash grab.

Service station owner Reema Khurana said the worker was left “traumatised”.

“This is our baby,” Khurana said.

“We treat our staff as our family, if this happens to our family we get angry.”

Police were there within 10 minutes but the owners spoke out because they said businesses like theirs were sitting ducks.

They were already the victims of two petrol thefts that day.

The Khurana family said police told them tracking the man would be difficult because he covered his face.

The vehicle he left in had fake number plates.
