A police dog has helped arrest a man who allegedly broke into an Adelaide CBD business and stole bottles of alcohol overnight.

Police were called to reports a man allegedly smashed his way into a business with a gas bottle on the corner of Hindley Street and Morphett Street about 1.40am.

He allegedly entered the building before quickly leaving the scene with several bottles of alcohol.

After authorities arrived, police dog Edge began tracking west along Hindley and then north on Register Street, before indicating at a nearby stairwell.

“Here Edge indicated to a stairwell,” police said.

“Inside Edge found a 24-year-old Elizabeth Downs man and placed him under arrest.”

Officers found a bag containing bottles of alcohol in the man’s possession.

He has been charged with serious criminal trespass, theft, unlawful possession and breach of bail.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrate Court today.
