Two men have been charged following an alleged assault on multiple people including police officers in Melbourne’s north-east overnight.
The incident unfolded after police were called to a robbery at a Moresby Court liquor store in Heidelberg West about 7.15pm.
Police allege two men had assaulted two shopkeepers shortly before officers arrived at the scene.
The men then allegedly assaulted several police officers while resisting arrest.
Police said the pair were quickly arrested, and police alleging one was in “possession of an edged weapon”.
Several police officers and two shop keepers suffered minor injuries.
A 25-year-old Heidelberg man was charged with assault police, resist police, unlawful assault and possess dangerous article.
A 25-year-old Collingwood man was charged with assault police, resist police and unlawful assault.
Both men were bailed to appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court in November.
