Police have seized more than 20 illegal weapons and laid about 50 charges against alleged offenders following a major operation in south-east Melbourne.

Officers confiscated the dangerous weapons and drugs from people already known to police during raids across Greater Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia earlier this month.

The illegal weapons included three firearms and imitation firearms, machetes, a medieval sword, a knife with shooting blades, a dagger, mutliple crossbows, batons and pepper spray.

He is due to appear in court in September.

Acting Inspector Brett Skurka said the banned weapons seized were deadly.

“That’s why we will be relentless in our efforts to remove dangerous weapons from the wrong hands and keep our community safe,” he said.

“These weapons can be deadly, and they are prohibited for a reason.”
