Thredbo Resort has responded to the mans death, extending ‘its heartfelt condolences to his family and friends’.

‘Thredbo is deeply saddened by the passing of a male guest whilst skiing at Thredbo Resort today,’ a spokesperson said.

‘Thredbo Ski Patrol promptly attended the scene and are currently working with police.’

After weeks of bad weather on the slopes, the incident occurred on a day with no snowfall but with 35km/hour winds.

The man’s death comes one year after a Sydney teenager died while also skiing at Thredbo.

Oliver Johnston, 18, a former student of Shore school lost control on the High Noon run before running into snow gums at high speed.

He was treated at the scene by ski patrol before being transported to Thredbo Medical Centre. Despite attempts to save him, he was declared dead.

NSW snow fields like Thredbo have been packed this winter with skiers and snowboarders reporting hours long lines in carparks and huge lines for lifts.

Bad weather including winds of around 100km per hour forced lift lines to shut, pushing all visitors onto a small number of lifts and T-bars.

More to come.
