Two men have been charged after a convenience store in Melbourne’s north was set alight last week.

A fire was allegedly started before two men then fled the scene in a previously stolen vehicle.

It was then set alight in Erinbank Crescent in Westmeadows.

Detectives from Taskforce Lunar arrested a 19-year-old Westmeadows man at a home the following day.

He was charged with two counts of criminal damage by fire (arson), possessing a prohibited weapon and possessing cartridge ammunition.

Police said a gel blaster imitation firearm was found during a search warrant at his address.

A 35-year-old man from Broadmeadows was also arrested on Friday in Broadmeadows.

He was charged with two counts of criminal damage by fire (arson) and possessing a prohibited weapon.

The duo was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on August 12.
