Two men have faced court over a stolen car chase that ended in a dramatic takedown at a Brisbane service station yesterday.
The six-hour police pursuit spanned several hundred kilometres.
It started when a black Ford ute was allegedly stolen from a home in the inner-city suburb of Tenerrife early in the morning.
Police said the car emerged at about midday before it allegedly drove at officers and rammed into a police car on Wedd Street at Spring Hill.
The car then led police through Indooropilly then onto multiple highways, travelling first to Ipswich then west on the Warrego Highway towards Toowoomba.
The 9News helicopter tracked the car from above as it weaved in and out of traffic and overtook cars on main roads.
Police officers strategically positioned themselves at various Toowoomba petrol stations as they waited to pounce on the 19 and 32-year-old alleged offenders.
“The policemen were already in the store, so he was hiding behind the shelf and everything, he already knew the guys were coming,” a BP employee said.
“He came out from the car, tried to get the fuel but the policemen just went outside and pulled him out.”
They were arrested less than 100 metres from a BP, where they slipped into to fill up their car before dozens of officers swarmed the 19-year-old driver.
The 32-year-old passenger was charged with multiple serious offences, including assaulting an officer.
Police said the 19-year-old drove the vehicle and he was charged with multiple offences.
Both men appeared at the Ipswich Magistrates Court via video link this morning.
