Emergency services first responded to a ram raid and failed arson attempt at JB’s Smokes & Gifts on Paisley Street in Footscray just after 3am.

The offenders failed to light the fire and fled the scene in another car.

A jerry can was left in the middle of the road.

Emergency services were then called to a vape and shisha shop on Sydney Road in Coburg just before 4.30am.

Police believe offenders broke into the shop and started the fire, with fire crews arriving minutes later.

The vape and tobacco store has been extensively damaged.

The fire is being treated as suspicious.
