The horrific crimes of Fred and Rose West have seen the sadistic couple dubbed among the worst serial killers in the UK, with Rose convicted of nine murders and Fred convicted of 12.

It is thought the earliest of Fred’s sickening offences began in his younger years, when he is thought to have sexually abused his younger sister. But it was when he met Rose, and the pair fed off each other’s depraved desires, that they began a campaign of torture, sexual violence and murder spanning 14 years.

The murderous pair not only found victims on the streets; but also brought their reign of terror into the family home by inflicting near-daily horror onto their children.

Among their twelve known victims are their eldest daughter Heather, 17, and Fred West’s eight-year-old stepdaughter, Charmaine. One of their children believes the ruthless pair could have as many as 30 victims.

As Rose: Making Of A Monster, is set to air on Channel 5 this evening, FEMAIL looks back on the young women who fell victim to Britain’s most prolific serial killers.

Hailing from Scotland, Ann McFall is thought to be Fred West’s first murder victim.

According to the BBC, she originally had a job in a knitwear factory in Glasgow and later made the Gloucester area her home in 1966.

Anne, 18, was a childminder to the children from West’s first marriage – Charmaine and Anne Marie – whom West shared with first wife Catherine ‘Rena’ Costello.

Geoffrey Wansall, who is Fred West’s biographer, wrote that West believed Ann ‘flirted restlessly’ with him.

The 18-year-old was thought to be fairly ‘naive’ in nature and shared a caravan with West when she began an affair with him while his wife was away.

In May 1967, Anne went missing whilst pregnant with the serial killer’s baby.

She was discovered alongside her unborn child in a field in Kempley, not far away from West’s childhood home in Much Marcle in Herefordshire.

Catherine ‘Rena’ Costello, who was also from Scotland, was Fred West’s first wife, and became his second known murder victim.

At the time of their nuptials at Ledbury in September 1962, Rena was carrying another man’s child, and would later give birth to her first daughter Charmaine in 1963.

According to Mr Wansall, the Scot had a ‘strong personality’ and was reportedly ‘more than a match for Fred’.

The couple later had their own child together, named Anne Marie, the following year.

Rena, who was ‘dubbed ‘tough’ and ‘manipulative’, decided to leave West in 1969, when it is thought the relationship had become both sexually and physically violent.

After her daughter Charmaine was murdered by Rose West, Rena came looking for her.

Fred then strangled his ex-wife later disposing of her body by dismembering her in a field near his childhood residence.

From 1971, Rena’s family and friends did not hear from her again. Her remains were also discovered in a field in Kempley, nearby where Ms McFall was found.

Charmaine West

After Fred and his ex-wife Rena split, Rose, then 16, moved in with Fred as well as his daughter Charmaine, who would later become her first victim.

According to The Mirror, it is believed Rose would attempt to enforce her father’s strict rules on Charmaine.

However, Rose, who by this time had already given birth to her first child with Fred, would become incensed when Charmaine defied her authority.

It is assumed Rose killed the young girl in a red mist of rage.

The eight-year-old’s body was tucked away in a coal cellar and then hidden underneath the kitchen floor by Fred in his and Rose’s home in Midland Road, Gloucester after he served his prison time for theft.

Lynda Gough resided in the Gloucester area with her family, having been a student at a local primary school and then attended a private school in Midland Road.

Following her studies she became a seamstress and developed friendships with several lodgers at the West’s ‘House of Horrors’ at 25 Cromwell Street.

Described by Mr Wansall as ‘naive’, it has been rumoured that Lynda had a sexual relationship with some of the lodgers.

In April 1973, Lynda, 19, was reported missing by her parents.

Her remains were discovered in a former car inspection pit in a garage that had been renovated into a bathroom at the home on February 28, 1994.

Fred West initially denied any knowledge of Lynda Gough, but on March 4, 1994, confessed to the murder of Lynda, Rena and Charmaine.

Carol Ann Cooper, who also went by the nickname ‘Caz’, was from Luton, Bedfordshire.

Later in life, Carol lived in Worcester. When she went missing in November 1973, she was residing at The Pine Children’s Home.

Before her disappearance, the 15-year-old had been granted permission to spend the weekend with her grandmother.

On November 10, she vanished after getting the bus following a night out.

West Mercia police made several enquiries into her disappearance however they were unable to find the youngster.

Her remains were discovered beneath the cellar of the West’s home. Authorities determined the cruel couple had given the teenager a lift as she was hitch-hiking home.

Lucy Partington was described as a ‘clever and much-liked’ Exeter University student.

Born in St Albans, the 21-year-old spent some of her middle-class upbringing in Bishop’s Cleeve.

On December 20, 1973, the university student had come home for the festive period and vanished two days after departing from a friend’s home.

It is believed Rose and Fred West had picked the 21-year-old up as she was waiting for a bus to get her home to Gretton, nearby Winchcombe.

Following her disappearance, her mother reported the young woman missing, igniting a huge search.

According to Fred West’s biographer, Mr Wansall, Lucy’s murder was usually the ‘one that attracts the most anger’.

Her body was also discovered beneath the cellar of Rose and Fred West’s home.

Therese Siegenthaler was from Switzerland but studying at a college in London.

Even though the Swiss citizen had left school at 16-years-old she had decided to move to England in the 1970s to pursue her education in secretarial studies.

On the weekends, the 21-year-old would often be found working at a ballet shoe shop in Leicester Square.

The young petite woman, with blondish, mousey hair went missing around Easter in 1974 while hitch-hiking to Ireland where she had intended to visit a friend. Unfortunately, she never made it that far before falling victim to the serial killer couple and went missing on her route.

The Metropolitan Police investigated her disappearance for years but had little success.

Her remains were also found under the floor of the cellar in the ‘House of Horrors’ at 25 Cromwell Street.

Shirley Hubbard

Fifteen-year-old Shirley Hubbard was the youngest of the West’s victims to be discovered in their home on Cromwell Street.

Described as ‘pretty, spirited and vulnerable’, Shirley was born with the surname Lloyd in Birmingham. She also went by the name Shirley Owen.

At the age of two, her parents split and she was then placed into care.

As of 1972, she went by the name Shirley Hubbard, even though her name was never officially changed by deed poll.

The teenager was a student at Droitwich High School and was in the midst of her work experience at Debenhams in Worcester when she went missing on November 14, 1974 on her way home from the department store.

She was reported as missing to the police, yet there were no leads on her whereabouts.

Her remains were also discovered underneath the cellar floor at Cromwell Street.

Born in 1957, Juanita Mott was a strong-willed, outgoing, and rebellious child, according to Mr Wansall.

After she had attended school in Gloucester, she headed to the city in 1972 to pursue several short-term roles.

During April 1975, it is assumed the 18-year-old had left her home in Newent to head down to Gloucester – but disappeared the day of her friend’s wedding.

Her parents did get in touch with the media and the Missing Persons Bureau, however, her disappearance was not formally reported to the police.

Her remains were also found in Fred and Rose West’s home at 25 Cromwell Street.

Shirley Anne Robinson

Born in Leicestershire, Shirley Anne Robinson spent portions of her upbringing in both the West Midlands and Germany.

She became a lodger at the West’s home and later sparked an affair with Fred West.

According to Fred’s biographer, Mr Wansall, Shirley perceived herself as ‘Rose’s replacement’; which prompted Rose to imply it was time for her to leave the house.

Described as ‘rather worldly’, Shirley was around eight months pregnant with Fred West’s unborn child when she went missing in May 1979.

Her body and her unborn child were discovered to have been buried in Rose and Fred West’s garden.

Alison Chambers

The daughter of an RAF man, Alison Chambers, also known as Al or Ali, was born in West Germany and spent some of her upbringing in Swansea, Wales.

Alison went to live in a children’s home in Gloucester as the 16-year-old had become ‘rebellious’.

It has previously been reported that her friends and colleagues at the solicitors firm where she worked described her as someone who wanted ‘constant attention’.

The teenager was known to visit 25 Cromwell Street – the home of Fred and Rose West – often. But in August 1979, just before her 17th birthday, she went missing.

Her case was first reported to both the Missing Persons Bureau and the police as an absconder from care.

Her body was discovered buried in Fred and Rose West’s garden at 25 Cromwell Street.

Among the depraved couple’s known twelve victims was their eldest daughter, Heather West, 16, who had been sexually abused by her parents throughout her life.

Heather – who was born on October 17, 1970 – was the first of Fred and Rose West’s victims to be discovered at 25 Cromwell Street. She is widely believed to be her parents’ final murder victim.

The 17-year-old had resided with her parents and siblings until 1972, when they decided to make the move to Cromwell Street.

Mr Wansall said Heather was ‘rebellious, difficult, and refused to collaborate with her father’s plans’.

Heather complained to friends about the abuse and was murdered by her parents in a bid to keep her quiet.

The teenager had only recently finished her GCSE exams before she vanished.

Her parents claimed they had reported her missing to multiple people, however, they in fact never did.

The truth – the couple had murdered their daughter and buried her underneath the patio in their garden.
